Hey food fans,
I wanted to do a quick check-in and let you folks know about some new and exciting things coming up. Some of this info overlaps what I posted on my YouTube channel last week, but some of it is exclusive and new just for those who prefer to read lol. Also, just a reminder for you to please subscribe over there if you havent already. I don’t always keep this site/blog in sync with YouTube and vice versa. Honestly whatever medium I have time to deal with is the one I update at a given moment. I'm just not where I can dedicate THAT much time to both plus all the other projects of late.
So here's the list of schtufffff that is happening now, about to happen or that will cost you money later lol.
1 - Perfect Barbecue Method Video Series - So back in April I came across this magical little recipe book called The Perfect BBQ Method. I really liked it. I thought it was well done and frankly as comprehensive as any cookbook I had read in a long, long time. I thought so much of it that I sat down with the creator and wanted to pick their brain as I was trying to learn as much as possible since I was about to start the process of writing my own book. It goes without saying that I recommend this book.
Well as fate would have it, one thing led to another and I was asked to put together a video series loosely based on the book. I was given pretty open creative freedom to "just be me" and "don’t worry about anything but enjoying yourself." The end result...well is turning into a full master class. I really love this project. This was easily both the most fun I've had in front of a camera and also the most strenuous. I feel like this is the most "me" on film that I've done yet. There were no products to worry about making look great. There were no limitations. There was no one saying "that doesn’t fit our brand or the tone of this project." It was just about me talking to YOU about cooking. I'm not here trying to convince you to join, honestly, I don’t get a dime if you do or don’t. I wanted it that way so I could focus on just enjoying creating and not worrying about the budget. If you are looking for something that is as close to cooking with me without traveling to W. Ky and paying me a lot of money, well this is it lol. Anyway, you can check out the video for the class down below or get more info here.
Oh, one more thing, there are several more rounds of filming already scheduled and they include some of my best friends in bbq. More content will be added on a regular basis. So if you join and have questions or want specific videos you have the opportunity for your voice to be heard!
2 - New Partnerships - So in the background of all the things I have going on I have formed a partnership with Chef Dylan Lipe. Dylan is not only a close friend, but he is also a mentor, advisor and just an all-around badass great guy. Sitting around the kitchen bar of the house we rented for Memphis in May we both had this epiphany for a company at 3am in the morning. We joked about it, we tried to tap dance around it, we tried to pretend it didn’t happen....but the more we did those things the more we were drawn into the idea that this void in barbecue needed to be filled. While I won't get into the details of what the company is about and all the things we are doing together, I will tell you that Flavor Anonymous as a presence in the cooking world will be undeniable. The mix of punk rock attitude meeting funky flavor aesthetics just works and its an idea whose time has come.
It's already taken off and it's almost comical as to the scope, but great things happen when you put two creators together who can make things happen. Either way 2020 will be a great year for all of those around this company and those who align with us early on as we grow. Be sure to follow the FA FB page for all the latest!
3 - New Products - From new partnerships comes the confidence to re-release some older great products to mix in with new products. As of this moment, there are 4 rubs that will be released as part of the Flavor Anonymous Brands movement. Some will be under the Pitmaster Shane D label, others will not, but they are all apart of the same label. We are approaching this much like a great rap album. Every great rap album used their platform to launch the new artist. This is no different. To steal a few classic examples: Dr. Dre's The Chronic wouldn’t be the same without Snoop. Outkast's Southerplayalisticadillacmuzik wouldn’t be the same without the members of The Goodie Mob making appearances. This concept is much the same. It's about the companies of FAB (Flavor Anonymous Brands) putting their best stuff forward to be released.
So what can you expect? The first release will be Moo'd Enhancer done as a limited run. We are ordering 100 1 pound bags and sending them out. When they are gone...they are gone. We will sit down and take the feedback given on it and either change it forever or let it continue to stand as it is.

Yes, we will likely be doing a presale for these first 100 packages. I plan to include some goodies in each of these 100. I've not settled on that will be included but for sure some stickers, maybe a secret rub recipe that I've never published before, I don’t know. I have lots of ideas concerning that if you have any feel free to hit me in email and let me know your thoughts on it.
So what are the other three rubs? Well, I can't fully give them away just yet, but you can be sure they will cover things like chicken, a "not AP" rub since that name is overused in the market and something specifically for pork that will be a complete TRIP!
On top of this, I am also wrapping up the final pieces (read in final testing) for two new products for Grilla Grills. Right now this is a chicken rub that is completely different from the one I have done as part of the Flavor Anonymous project. Where FA is all about pulling out all the stops and using every trick to dominate, Grilla's products are always a much cleaner and friendlier ingredient list. It doesn’t mean they are any less good, it's just a different aim point. FA doesn’t care what it costs, they are an "all in" sort of product intended for elite few who will pay for elite products. Grilla is definitely for the mainstream and I try to make them very accessible for all.
The second Grilla product is a new sauce that will complement its current line up VERY well.
4 - Cooking in Dallas, Tx - I was contacted by DuraFlame brands aka Cowboy Charcoal aka Western Wood products to travel to the World Food Championships and cook for them as part of a demo team they were putting together. I quickly invited Dylan Lipe to the party and we will be cooking with Derek Wolf of Over The Fire Cooking and Kita Roberts of Girl Carnivore.
So what will we be cooking? Well.....MEAT! lol. Lots of beef, pork, seafood and poultry and handing out samples! We will be in Dallas Oct 16-20 so come see us!
5 - The ever lingering book - Yes, there is a book for those who haven't heard. After much debate, Dylan and I are writing a book together, but it will not be your standard cookbook. Frankly, we are wordy bastards who have so much to say about things that just a standard cookbook will not do. Be on the lookout as we chronical the writing of this thing. So if not a cookbook, then what? Well, we are both HUGE Anthony Bourdain fans....so I'll let your imagination run from there. Don't worry, for those of you who only buy books for the pictures....there will still be plenty of recipes ;0)
That covers what I can share for now. There is so much happening and already scheduled for 2020 that it's crazy!
